Children’s play, enjoyment and achievement have always played a large part in my life. Having grown up in the Woodcraft Folk, I have learnt that consultation with children plays a big part in their enjoyment and therefore development. Throughout my adult life I have been constantly involved with children: Woodcraft Folk groups, being a nanny, working in schools and running an After School Club. As well as being the OPA’s senior Play Ranger, I work as a teaching assistant in an Oxford primary school. Working in a school I see how important it is for children to have free child-led play outside of the structured school environment and as a Play Ranger I am having great fun in helping to facilitate this unstructured play in a safe environment.
Rita Lewis - Play Ranger
(Rita used to provide emergency cover for the Play Rangers, and we are delighted to say she has now joined the team as a full time Play Ranger!)
I have three sons. I have worked with children since 1996 as a volunteer TA in a local Primary School, and I have been a Lunchtime Supervisor at the school since 2005. I have also done volunteer work in the local Pre-School, leading to me working there and gaining my Diploma in Pre-School Practice (level 3) and other qualifications. I ran an after school club for over 2 years, and I have been doing the emergency cover as a Play Ranger since Sept 2008. I enjoy going out and playing in the big open spaces.
