We are excited to announce that we are going to be expanding our award winning Playful Woodlands Project to Blackbird Leys. Following on from the success of the Dragon in Magdalen Wood, we are currently raising funds to build a 60 meter living dragon made from trees, reclaimed timber and coppiced willow. This will create a playful structure that winds through a little used area of scrubland in Blackbird Leys. The project will benefit both the local community and the environment – residents will have access to a fun and playful wild space on their door step, and an area of scrubland will be transformed from an a neglected space to a rejuvenated one with increased light, an improved are of fen meadow and increased biodiversity. We are really excited about bringing this amazing dragon to Blackbird Leys. It will provide a much needed family friendly wild space as well as positively impacting on the environment.
How can you help?! Please vote for us! We have been shortlisted as one of three community groups in our region for the Bags of Help Scheme and we need your votes! Tesco has teamed up with Groundwork on its Bags of Help Initiative in hundreds of regions across England and Wales. The scheme will see three community groups and projects in each of these regions awarded grants of £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 – all raised from the 5p bag charge. OPA’s Playful Woodlands Project is one of the shortlisted projects in our area and the amount of funding we receive will depend on how many people vote for us. The public will be able to vote in Tesco stores from 26th September to 9 October. Every vote will count and your vote really could help us to bring this amazing and groundbreaking project to Blackbird Leys.
Thank you in advance!
